The Blue Mountain Goats

All about Rahul B Vohra

“Have a passion, follow it and you will never ever be bored again”.

I am not sure if this is original or is something that I remembered as I sat down to write this. Any which way “ki Fark hai”

Looking back on my life it is clear that having a passion and following it is not exactly co-existential as life gets in the way many a times.

I am Rahul Vohra from Delhi-India. I have qualified as CA from India and CPA from USA besides a few other professional qualifications. But reading books on religion, an occasional action packed bestseller, a bit of Urdu poetry, watching a play, a good movie, attending a storytelling session or meandering through the narrow streets of Delhi, a walk through Meharauli village or Feroze shah Kotla complex had always attracted me. But I did nothing to keep the fire going. Remember life gets in the way!

After long years of working, two years before I was due to retire, I quit my cushy (Pay wise) but a high pressure CFO Job. I had decided to put up my feet and read all the lovely books that I always wanted too. Six months down the line I realized that travelling was always my calling. Being out in open on a desolate mountain road was far more exciting than my Balcony and books, though I must admit that I have travelled far less then I would have liked to. So I decided to something about it while I could, besides I could always read while travelling.

But life did really get in the way……. a tale that I leave for another day.

Besides traveling, I write poetry. I am presently trying to put a storyline for a shortish novel (or a longish short story). But one thing I enjoy most is being in company of my friends named ‘Nature’ & ‘family’.

First things first, I’m not a backpacker. While I carry a backpack for convenience, I have now decided to stay in experiential accommodations (some call it home stays), especially if I am travelling in rural areas. My travels are not really planned to last ‘T” but I loosely work it out and I hate fixed itinerary The quiet, the pine tree, the red fire flowers, the wild life, the national parks, palaces, temples, heritage and history are my calling and a big part of choosing my travel destinations.

Why do I want to travel?
Hmmn….. I love traveling to experience how other cultures live, try new things, find adventures, explore new cities, and meet interesting people. I oscillate between my preferences to tell someone else’s story Vs. trying to make mine interesting. This world is full of people with amazing stories, and I love finding those people, tell their stories as understood by me.

I travel impulsively and to places that may not be touristy but should smell of local culture. I travel slowly and get under the skin of a place, talk to locals and experiment with local cuisine. I mostly travel solo as my wife is in a high pressure job, she joins me whenever she can.

On my part, I prefer public transport and try to look for local experiences.

I am starting this site to document my current trips as well as the past travels. I write as I feel, with no preconceived road map to give information that others’ may find useful while travelling. I write for the love of creating a personal travelogue into which other likeminded people may have a peep.
